I’ve been offline for 24 hours! It was quite traumatic for me, I assure you. I apologise to those people who had comments waiting in moderation for me.
So, first thing: THANKYOU SO MUCH to everyone that donated money towards my rent. An especially big hugs to Paul. I guess I have some drawing to do. I’ll post the first parts of the comic here as soon as I have internet access at the Cottage.
Today I went to Centrelink to apply for unemployment benefits today. It was a fun filled adventure, as anyone who has ever applied for ‘NewStart Allowance’ will be able to sympathise with me. I was directed to use their phone, and sit through a phone interview. When they asked me if I was living with anyone else, I told them that I was living with a housemate, and confirmed that yes he is male. Apparently because I am living with someone of the opposite sex I have to fill in form MOD LR, intead of being able to go straight onto payments. I muttered “Oh for gods sake” at this point, and the woman on the other end of the phone asked what was wrong. When I replied “I’m a lesbian.” she responded “Oh yes, according to Centrelink homosexuals don’t exist.”
I thought that response was gold, and I hope that she doesn’t get into trouble for it.
I do have some promising looking free-lance Internet Marketing gigs coming up, but there is no way I can live on no money until they pan out, or don’t. So donations are still appreciated, and meanwhile I am still applying for retail positions and attending “Job Network Interviews” on request of Centrelink. I hope something turns up soon, Summer Soltice is coming soon, here down under, and I would like to be financially secure by then.
Mod LR, is that new? I lived with a guy and though they asked me if we were in a relationship (after already establishing I was single), it didn’t go any further than that – perhaps it was different because I was already on payments when I moved in with him. Mind you, I’ve noticed that as the Howard years have dragged on, dealing with Centrelink has become more and more difficult.
Btw, make sure they backdate your application to when you finished work.

LOL @ the Centrelink lady’s response!
I was going to try and apply for some kind of help just because I’m studying full time and working part time, but then I realised I’d probably just be earning the same money but I’d have to work less. I decided against it.
