Actually Zucker has past affiliations to the DSM. I took the time to read through the disclosures you've linked, and according to the bio on him, Zucker has been consulted before. He was a member of the Gender
Identity Disorders subcommittee for DSM-III-R and DSM-IV and served as the text editor for the
section on Gender Identity Disorders for DSM-IV-TR.

As a side note, you might want to note the typos I made in the comment at Belerico. I have dyslexia and I messed up DSM inverting it to DMS. I wouldn't want you taking flack for it!

Hi Emma! Welcome to CM :D

I prefer trying to change things on a small and personal level too, but in some cases I get mad enough to go for bigger change!

I am so horrified about what I have read about Zucker, Blanchard and some of the other choices for the panel. My hope is that the APA simply didn't realise who they were selecting, and will reconsider the panel once they have been told.

If not, I suppose the fight is on.

Thank you for finding my comment meaningful enough to engage and repost.
For the most part I don't think of myself as being much of an activist. I prefer trying to put my energy into impacting or changing myself in the smaller, day to day things. I know that way I can diminish the outstanding problem by at least one (me) that way.
The implications of the APA announcement seemed very fundamentally "wrong" to me. There are good people in the work group whose specialties will be beneficial in areas outside of gender. Zucker and Blanchard are so publically hostile and extreme that their inclusion seems deliberately prejudicial. I would have expected at the very least, that more neutral opinions be included. Certainly not two with identical biases.
Your disclosure link is a very beneficial resource. Thanks for posting that.
